Great article, as usual. I do disagree that Trump's rethoric is at fault though. Liberals worked very hard to import comrades who always vote liberal. According to some estimates the liberal party was gaining around 150k votes from the newly minted citizens on a monthly basis for the last couple of years.
It was insane to vote for Trudeau after what he did to Canada during covid and it was insane to vote for China yesterday and yet that is what new Canadians prefer.
That's absurd. First, there's no way 1.8 million new Canadians arrived per year for the last couple of years. Second, it's plain as day why the Liberals won: NDP voters shifted to the Liberals. That's exactly what cost Poilievre his own seat, as well as the prime ministership. Third, I'm no Trudeau fan, but his influence during COVID was minimal, as health is provincial and every province responded differently to the pandemic. Finally, while I'm no fan of today's liberals, people who voted for them shouldn't be called "comrades," as I would venture that 95% of them (or more) aren't communist.
You are partly right. Why only partly? During Trudeau reign Canada has officially accepted at least 2.5 million immigrants. That is almost 10% of the population. But here is the funny part. The population of Canada in 2016 was 35 million. The population of Canada in 2024 was 42. 7 million difference. Is birthrate among native Canadians that high? Most likely no.
In 2024, the top source countries for immigrants arriving in Canada were India, Philippines, China, Cameroon, and Nigeri. Not exactly countries known for their conservative values. In addition to that, India and China are as close to communist values as it gets.
So yes, you did welcome many millions of comrades who will change your country for good.
I don't think that's fair. What country would react differently when faced with annexationist threats from a much more powerful neighbour that up to that point, had been the neighbour's closest ally and largest trading partner? The reaction by Canadians was understandable and hardly surprising. They still shouldn't have chosen the Liberals, but unfortunately Poilievre was unfairly tainted by his policy affiliation with Trump.
Canada will survive for sure, and Trump is clearly to blame for the upturn in Liberal fortunes, but the idea that he "tarnishes whatever he touches" is absurd. He hasn't tarnished the southern border. He didn't tarnish the Abraham Accords. He hasn't tarnished women's sports by limiting them to biological females i.e. women. etc. etc.
Nice analysis of the Gilded Age. There are lopsided concentrations of power, which the Woke movement embodies and has done nothing to correct. But there's also the constant chasing after the dollar and the phoniness that results. Real change has to change both and bring the outer and inner back into line with one another.

Oh and I forgot to mention that Canada's birthrate is 1.3.

If hatred of Trump is what elevated Canadian liberal vote, they got what they deserved.

Oy. Did you really think Trump would annex Canada? Granted, with Trump you never know where reality ends and bluff begins, but…
Trump tarnished whatever he touches. Canada will survive.
