Another aspect of this tactic is 10 years after it's over and the extent of the damage to victims' lives becomes clearer, the same class of people can simply respond "it was based on the best science at the time," revising out of history all the skeptics and bogus activist-driven studies.

There was no science here in any meaningful sense… It was a moral panic driven by advocates

We do not think you care about these children, we think you are using them to demonize and get enough power to hurt LGBT Americans, in the same way that you use the CRT panic to attack people that talk about Tulsa or contemporary racist actions. We do not listen to what you profess, we look at what you do and which politicians and movements you actually endorse.

The number of kids claiming gender dysphoria has gone up like a hockey stick over the past few years.

Of course it’s just a phase, but society has indulged the concept that suicide is a near inevitability for these kids.

If you haven’t yet had the privilege of a child near you suddenly pronounce “it’s they them or I’ll kill myself”, you soon will.

It’s not fun, and it’s happening primarily in liberal, affluent areas.

The call is coming from inside the house. This our side, our issue. VA was a blue region, and it turned red, only for gender ideology.

When this cancer comes for your family, it changes attitudes, quickly.

Alienating 51% of the population in service of anti-science is terrible strategy.

Let’s say gender ideology is a trickle-down fad that goes from elitist coasts into middle-America. Then , we are truly f’d. I hope you really enjoy losing ground on every other progressive cause. Because that’s what is happening

Edit- to embellish on the idea of this being an issue that affects left-wing parents-

We are otherwise generally tolerant of LGBT.

Before our kid’s trans id, our family had iterations of bi coming-out, then lesbian, then pan.

Up until the “pansexual “, we were supportive. But THAT got an eye roll and some static.

Then the trans thing was full force and involved suicide threats.

The reason why you know this is an inside issue is precisely //because// there isn’t a corresponding panic over LGB kids. LGB was waved off by parents as completely acceptable. Parent outrage only could be elicited by the “T”.

What happened in Virginia was that a bunch of parents were told CRT was bad, that everything is CRT, and since American parents are among the prissiest, most credulous and easily spooked groups in human history, they panicked and lashed out in a desperate bid to reclaim agency.

But it's fun how democrats always have to apologize for their extremes while republicans are going to force raped children to go through pregnancy and birth. Very fair, very centrist, very sensible.

Problem is that all the conservatives and indoctrinated school shooter types now want to define grooming as "Letting kids know that gay and non-cis people exist", which of course will lead to an uptick in hate crimes, cancelling, silencing and discriminatory legislation, which is the real goal rather than all these "protecting little Braydyn and Kayeileaigh" excuses. I look at what you people do, not what you say.

I look at what *You* do. You write uniformed views based on stereotypes.

What You say and what You do. You yawn.

Excellent, and damning. The Yawn is a perfect description of something I have noticed but did not try to define, and reminds me of Siegel’s coining and delineation of “az-uhs” back in June 2020 in, “the New Truth,” an essay I have tattooed on my forearm:

“Have you noticed how many people, especially online, start their statements by telling you their profession or their identity group: ‘As a privileged white woman; as a doctoral student in applied linguistics; as a progressive Jewish BIPOC paleontologist’—and so on? These are military salutes, which are used to establish rank between fellow “az-uhs” while distinguishing them as a class from the civilian population.”

I read that essay when it was posted/published and a few times a week ever since I see someone use this tone. Each time I think, “Uh-oh, this guy’s another az-uh.” I now expect to think “here’s a Yawn” about as frequently.

The collective yawn described above is the appeasement of evil

Or even its hidden embrace.

I'd go even further. It is the justification for personal cowardice. Easier to scoff and yawn that rouse yourself to do something that takes moral courage-even when the stakes are relatively low. See, for example, mass mask wearing compliance.

Problem is the British Health Service will soon publish a longer term follow up study of trans male health and MH outcomes observed post puberty blockers and cross sex hormones. Since they have already closed a major clinic and ruled Judicially that children 16 or under cannot consent, the results are unlikely to be pretty. Even the BBC is curbing their former enthusiasm. Better standby for news that will be hard to ignore but can not doubt be spun but with a much greater effort than before.

I'm late to the party, but this is a brilliant article with a brilliant title. I look forward to referencing it next time someone yawns at me.

After lowering the age of consent to 14 for children to receive puberty blockers and surgery, which was troubling enough, WPATH has now changed it again--to _no_ minimum age requirement at all.

The yawn is over how plainly fake it is for transphobic conservatives to express concerns over the well being of trans children. The proper reaction to alligator tears is to yawn.

The health and happiness of trans teens is simply not a problem from a conservative point of view. The problems for conservatives are - as you put it here - protecting established conventions, preventing social engineering, stopping large-scale social transformation.

Oh, yeah, someday "we didn't castrate enough kids back then" will surely be accepted wisdom.

Is your concern about castration or kids? Is there any other way you are supporting these people?

Both. Yes, in several ways. That's all the information I have to share.

I just don't know anyone who is not in favor of the well being of trans children or any child. What I do see is tremendous concern over the enormous rise in the demand for trans services for minors that irrevocably alter that minor's life trajectory and biology. No thinking person in their right mind would not be concerned about this and ask for a pause (or at least holding off rapid transformation until adulthood) until while we find out what is really going on.

I'm with you on that, and I imagine many leftists would also be. It takes maturity to make that kind of call.
