Excellent discussion on aid to Israel. Regarding "Ending aid won’t end the practice of scapegoating Jews, but it will remove a favorite decoy and dog whistle of American public officials, administrators, bureaucrats, philanthropists, and thought leaders". Wrong. Take the example of the UK. They give zero to Israel and millions to Pakistan and other Muslim nations. It hasnt stopped the favorite decoy and dog whistles from obsessed UK anti Israel antisemites on the Left masquerading as anti zionists.

Not so fast re: "By contrast, no American soldier or pilot has ever risked their lives for Israel, and no American missile or aircraft has ever flown in Israel’s defense. Such are the myths and realities of “the lobby.”

Here's a heartwarmin' story--Pee Wee Herman's daddy flew for Israel--other yankees did too!

As for no US citizen dying "for" Israel--we can't say that's so until the mystery of The USS Liberty Ship's being taken down is solved.

Certainly it was a cover up. Those in the ship may not have known they were being "sacrificed" at their country's behest ("for" Israel?")--but it's possible and though I believe the US was behind the take-out, had the plan gone "as planned" Israel might have benefited. Did Israel plan the ships destruction? Or did they cover for the US-destruction of the ship (letting their pilots be tricked) or did they simply obey orders to do the deed--ordered by the US? The Israeli pilots were told after the first attack that the ship WAS an American one (American Flag was intentionally not flown and markings were "covered" per some stories), but orders remained to down it even after the pilots were informed about the ship being American. Some say US wanted to blame the attack on Egypt giving them reason to reclaim territory and launch, with Israel, an attack. Either way, seems a mutual effort, mutually beneficial, totally reprehensible. US soldiers died "possibly" serving Israel given the murky depths of US politics....

Israel is in the process of learning the hard way that American assurances of secuity and help to its allies are not worth the paper they are written on especially when the cuirrent President is an appeaser of terror. See here as to why Netanyahu finally was invited to Washingtonhttps://www.jns.org/u-s-israel/joe-biden/23/7/17/303346/

How important is American political "aid" / support to Israel? It's unclear to me what harm UN and other corrupt international bodies could inflict on Israel if US decides to abandon it's role as lone voice of sanity.

You neatly left out President Trump's support of Israel as well as the collaboration between Israeli and American intelligence as well as the critical opposition to Iran, the world's leading sponsor of terrorism.

P.S. no fan of Trump.
