King David was the descendant, not the ancestor, of Ruth

Lincoln and Grant were men whose adult lifes too were marked by failure after failure, Grant named his homestead, while he had it "Hardscrapple", and he failed to keep it, and failed as a store clerk. Likewise Sojourner Truth's path in life had twists and turns of real heartbreak and moral traps, before and after her speech to the women against slavery in 1844 at the age 47 or so.

Lincoln was shot at a bad play which likely saved him the misery of having to speak well of it, and Grant died a nigh pauper, saved only by a rushed autobiography as cancer overtook him at speed. Mark Twain was his angel of mercy in that effort: Grant's wealth had been wiped out by a trusted advisor's participation in a pyramid scheme. Grant was bankrupted, and hit with cancer.

Sojourner Truth survived until a ripe age, 87, died at home in Battle Creek, Michigan in 1883, a year a half prior to Grant's death.

When the US was a great moral nation the Presidents were not Kings and Lords of Great Manors protected all the time by small armies, overly lauded for trivial acts, by dint of having held that office. Even as late as Harry Truman, were Presidents counted as equal citizens, in nigh all particulars of life.

But by Lincoln's time, Greek had replaced the founding era Hebrew, for men in schools of erudition and law. And in our time: the language of social media, like a flock of grackles or cowbirds, all of a wing at once, hither and yon, in short hops, blackening the sky in those mass formations.

Ruth's history begins with a warning, a marker of the time it was then. "And it came to pass in the days when the judges judged, that there was a famine in the land." (Mechon-Mamre)

Even David was a failure as a son, not by his own choice. David's choices were like Ruth's and Lincoln's, for sure.

When God wills it even a house divided against itself will stand.
